Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis | American Water | Hershey, PA
Primary Role:
Responsible for financial forecasting, planning and analysis for a
large state and/or multiple small states, utilizing strong accounting,
finance, regulatory and technical systems skills to effectively interact
with Sr. Regional/Divisional and State Management, to build a
transparent financial plan.
Key Accountabilities:
- Serves as the primary owner of monthly analysis and forecasting
processes for a large state and/or several small states. Works with a
financial modeling team and manages the forecasting for all major "what
if- scenarios for sound financial planning, resource planning and
investment decision-making.
- Supports by leading the individual state team's annual effort for
preparing an updated base financial forecast and the monthly process of
updating the current year forecast based on a combination of actual and
forecasted information.
- Produces financial updates to senior regional/divisional and state
management as well as the Board of Directors, and Manager of Operations
to enable more informed decision-making. Responsible for the preparation
of financial packages (i.e. monthly, quarterly, annually): oversees the
5-year, annual and monthly business processes and systems used for
preparing and summarizing forecast GAAP financial statements for the
assigned states.
- Transparency and data integrity are critical to reliability and
acceptance by external customers. Utilizes a combination of strong
technical systems knowledge and broad functional knowledge to assimilate
highly complex data to deliver accurate and timely financial
information.

Knowledge:
- Comprehensive and advanced knowledge of US GAAP, International
Accounting Standards, SOX and other regulatory (SEC, state utility
regulatory bodies, etc.) requirements and practices.
- Advanced knowledge of corporate and utility accounting and
reporting.
- Excellent understanding and highly technical expertise required in
rates or planning/accounting/finance.
- Detailed understanding of state specific regulations and regulatory
environment.
- Microsoft Office products, spreadsheet software, JD Edwards, SAP,
Orcom, Hyperion or other ERP systems.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- MBA in Accounting or Finance.
- 10 years prior accounting related job experience required. Including
experience with full cycle accounting processes.
- 4 to 6 years prior experience in the utility, shared service or
multi-company corporation industry.
- 1-2 years supervisory experience or equivalent required.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying process improvement
opportunities and engage in implementing improvements.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing customer needs through
soliciting, evaluating and acting upon customer feedback.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and coaching direct reports and
establishing career development plans by identifying development goals,
milestones and measures.
