VP, Financial Reporting | Prudential Financial | Hartford, CT

The Retirement Finance Group responsibilities include controllership, financial reporting, and planning and analysis for the Retirement businesses, as well as assisting with financial systems support, M&A, and product development. The group operates out of three main locations - Hartford, Connecticut, Woodbridge, New Jersey, and Scranton, Pennsylvania.

An outstanding and challenging opportunity as Vice President and Controller of the Full Service Retirement Business is available within the Retirement Finance Group in Hartford, Connecticut. This critical leadership role works closely with senior business management supporting the strategic growth of our Full Service Retirement Business and is charged with managing all aspects of controllership, financial reporting and internal control activities for the business. The individual will be leading a staff of approximately 20 finance and accounting professionals, and their responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the monthly and quarterly accounting close process for the business with over $65 billion in assets and $2 billion in annual revenues
  • Analysis supporting SEC reporting (10K/10Q/MD&A), quarterly earnings releases and analyst calls
  • Analyzing monthly and quarterly key business earnings drivers, including spread and fee-based earnings and related investment results and expense drivers
  • The preparation of quarterly and annual audited GAAP and statutory financial statements for a major insurance company subsidiary of Prudential Financial Inc.
  • M&A, due diligence and business /financial integration initiatives
  • Managing relationships with internal and independent auditors. Coordinating audit testing of financial statements and annual Sarbanes-Oxley testing and reviews
  • Working closely and developing strong relationships with our actuarial, operations, technology, and product development groups
  • Staff development, training and succession plans

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skill sets:
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with several years experience managing finance and accounting professionals in a large public company environment
  • Significant GAAP, SEC and Statutory reporting experience in the Insurance Industry. Thorough knowledge of Insurance Industry GAAP and Statutory accounting policies and concepts and internal control policies and procedures.
  • Superior analytical skills with the ability to identify interrelationships among components of financial information to understand and document key drivers of earnings and significant financial trends
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or related field, CPA designation with public accounting experience is required
